What protection is, in the material's own words

You came here holding a practice. Maybe somebody taught you a banishing, maybe you read about salt at a threshold, maybe you only know that the word protection travels with the word occult and you wanted to know whether this material confirms it. The question under the question is almost always: is there something I can do that makes me safe?

This material will not let you keep that question in its comfortable form. But it does not take the practice away either. What it does is stranger, and more useful: it tells you what protection is in its own cosmology, and lets you judge what any ward is worth from there.

What the group actually did

The transcripts are not silent on protection as a practice. When this group protected a working, it walked a circle, and once, when the walking was imperfect, the record says what came through the opening and what closed it. That is 62.1, and it is real: an actual attack, an actual procedure, an actual repair. The circle was not decoration.

This instrument was under specific psychic attack at the time of the beginning of the working. There was a slight irregularity in the words verbalized by your sound complex vibratory mechanisms in the protective walking of the circle. Into this opening came this entity and began to work upon the instrument now in trance state, as you would call it. This instrument was being quite adversely affected in physical complex distortions. Thus the circle was properly walked. The breath of righteousness expelled the thought-form and the circle again walked.

And the practice was not reserved for the working alone. Asked about two cats — two ordinary household cats, before a routine visit to a vet — a questioner asked what could be done for their protection, and the contact engaged the question rather than laughing at it. The answer it gives is worth quoting in full, because its ordinariness is the point:

The entity, Fairchild, though harvestable through investment, does not have the vulnerability to attack in as great an amount due to a lack of the mind complex activity in the distortion of conscious devotion. For protection of these entities we might indicate two possibilities. Firstly, the meditation putting on the armor of light. Secondly, the repetition of short ritual sentences known to this instrument from the establishment which distorts spiritual oneness for this instrument.

So the practice exists in the record. The mistake would be to stop reading there.

What protection turns out to be

Later in the same archive, a questioner asks the question directly — and the answer has nothing to do with circles, salt, or wards of any kind.

This is exquisitely perceptive. The seeker which has purely chosen the service-to-others path shall certainly not have a variant apparent incarnational experience. There is no outward shelter in your illusion from the gusts, flurries, and blizzards of quick and cruel catalyst. However, to the pure, all that is encountered speaks of the love and the light of the One Infinite Creator. The cruelest blow is seen with an ambiance of challenges offered and opportunities to come. Thusly, the great pitch of light is held high above such an one so that all interpretation may be seen to be protected by light.

Read that twice. There is no outward shelter. Not “the outward shelter is weak.” Not “the shelter is a training wheel.” There is none. And yet the record’s very next move is to hold the pitch of light high above such an one, so that every reading of what arrives is sheltered by it. The blows still land; what protection means, in this material’s own words, is that nothing encountered is encountered as an enemy — the cruellest blow is met as a challenge and an opportunity. Protection is a fact about the reading of an experience, not about the arrival of it.

The next answer goes further, and names two — only two — circumstances in which events themselves fall protectively:

In two circumstances this is so. Firstly, if there has been the pre-incarnative choice that, for instance, one shall not take life in the service of the cultural group, events shall fall in a protective manner. Secondly, if any entity is able to dwell completely in unity the only harm that may occur to it is the changing of the outward physical, yellow-ray vehicle into the more light-filled mind/body/spirit complex’s vehicle by the process of death. All other suffering and pain is as nothing to one such as this. We may note that this perfect configuration of the mind, body, and spirit complexes, while within the third-density vehicle, is extraordinarily rare.

The pre-incarnative choice, and the extraordinarily rare entity who dwells completely in unity. Neither of these is a technique. Neither can be performed. The first was made before you could remember making it; the second is the end state of the whole path, held up here as a limit, not an offer.

And then the questioner asks the mirror question, and gets the answer that gives the whole teaching its shape:

This is correct. You may note some of those of your peoples which, at this space/time nexus, seek places of survival. This is due to the lack of protection when service to self is invoked.

The negative path has no protection at all. Not less — none. This is the most striking asymmetry in the material’s treatment of protection: the service-to-others path is protected by the nature of what it is, and the service-to-self path is not protected by anything, including its own polarity. Protection, in this cosmology, is not a wall you raise. It is a property of where you are standing.

This synthesis is ours, and we label it: reading 95.24 to 95.26 together, this library concludes that protection in this material is a property of the seeker’s polarity, not of any ward. The records themselves never use the word polarization in those three answers; they speak of the service-to-others path, the pre-incarnative choice, and unity. The connection between them is our reading, and the essays of this library argue it rather than assert it.

So what is the circle for?

Here is where the two halves meet, and where a reader with a practice needs the honest joining. The circle in 62.1 worked. The material confirms it worked — the opening, the entry, the repair. How does a working that works sit beside a passage that says the only protection is a property of polarity?

Look at 76.2, where protection appears in a list:

We may answer in two modes. Firstly, if the instrument were thusly dedicated to this use with no transfer of energy of physical complex nature it would begin to call upon the vital energy itself and this, done in any substantive measure, is actively deleterious to a mind/body/spirit complex if that complex wishes further experience in the illusion which it now distorts. Secondly, if care is taken, firstly, to monitor the outer parameters of the instrument, then to transfer physical energy by sexual transfer, by magical protection, and, lastly, by the energetic displacements of thought-forms energizing the instrument during contact there is no difficulty in that there is no worsening of the instrument’s mind/body/spirit complex distortions of strength/weakness. It is to be noted that the instrument, by dedicating itself to this service, attracts greetings of which you are aware. These are inconvenient but, with care taken, need not be lastingly deleterious either to the instrument or the contact.

Magical protection is one of three modes of caring for the instrument of a working — alongside physical transfer and the displacement of thought-forms. The protection there is for a person carrying a contact, inside a dedicated working, and it is one instrument of a larger care. It is not a life arrangement. It is not a way to live. And the cats in 46.2 — the question is engaged, but read the answer’s scale: it is an ordinary kindness asked about ordinary animals in an ordinary week.

The picture that survives all three records is this: a ward is for the working. It belongs to the hour in which something particular is being done — a session, a healing, a contact — and its worth is the worth of that hour’s integrity. 62.1’s opening was not a failure of ward-technology; it was a moment of imperfection in the walking, which is to say a failure of attention, and the repair was the same attention restored. What the circle protects, it protects by being done whole.

What no ward protects is a life. For that, this material’s answer is the whole of 95.24 to 95.26, and it is not something you can buy, perform, or carry.

A ward has a radius; a polarity does not

The figure above is ours, and we say so: nothing in the sessions draws the working and the life as two circles like this. The records give the two truths separately — the walked circle of 62.1, the polarity-protection of session 95 — and this library puts them side by side so the boundary between them is visible. A ward has a radius. A polarity does not.

What this means for a practice you already hold

If you were taught a banishing, keep it — and keep it for the working. This material will not tell you to discard it; it describes its own group using procedures of exactly that kind, and it answers questions about protection asked about cats. What it will not do is let the practice become the point. The record’s own sequence runs: the working, the integrity of the working, and then — asked what protection fundamentally is — polarity, attention, and the way one reads what arrives.

And a caution the material itself frames: the one taking on a magical practice is the one taking on the self-assessment it requires. The group that walked its circle was a group that could see its own openings, name its own imperfections, and ask for its cats without embarrassment. A community that hands its rituals to strangers has taken over a judgement that cannot be delegated — which is why this site describes practices and does not prescribe them.

You asked whether something can be done that makes you safe. The material’s answer is yes, and the thing is not a ward: it is where you stand, how purely, and how honestly you read what comes. The circle is for the hour. The polarity is for everything else.
